Wales Junior TeamLast updated 19/05/2008 The Wales Junior Team adheres fully to the WARA child protection policy. Recent HistoryIn recent years, the Wales Junior Team has become a full size team (previously not having athletes of a sufficient standard to compete in the years before), with athletes being highly competitive, including National Championship medals and event wins for both the Junior Men and the Junior Women since 2003. We continue to strive for higher standards and seek athletes willing to join us in this quest. RegistrationPotential athletes are strongly encouraged to register now to ensure the best possible chance for selection. In particular, individual athletes should register as composite crews are a key feature of the Wales Junior team, proving to be very successful in recent years. Early registration enables good opportunities for training and preparation. Registration for any athlete not received by the National Schools Regatta may preclude selection. EligibilityEligibility is shown below for your ease of reference (eligibility must be provable):
From 2008, please note that ALL athletes are required to have their nationality eligibility checked before representing Wales. After registration, you will be contacted by the WARA Secretary to provide suitable evidence. SelectionThe following events are highlighted as the key opportunities to prove a selection case:
Athletes and coaches are asked to note that, in addition to J18 athletes, the coordinators continue to be keen to identify younger talent (J16 and J17) and will consider selecting athletes who show future potential (there are consistently several 16 year old athletes on the team, some of which have also raced for GB in the J16 GB v France match, whilst others have excellent success in winning at the Home International in future years and GB selection for the Coupe and the Junior Worlds). Final selections will be confirmed at the National Championships in July at Nottingham. PLEASE NOTE: All athletes not registered before the National Schools Regatta may not be considered for selection at the discretion of the Team Coordinators. As an indication of the required standard, crews should be capable of (at least) achieving the final in the National Championships in their event to be eligible for selection. Trialling for Great Britain Junior Teams? If you are seeking selection for Great Britain, registration is advised at an early stage. Crews for Wales for the National Championships need to be entered before final GB trials are concluded and it will allow you to keep your options open. Registered athletes involved in trials can continue to remain eligible for Wales until the outcome of GB trials is clear. Registration confirms your availability for row for Wales should you be
unsuccessful in GB trials and provides the
coordinators with the required information to progress. On-line RegistrationOn-line registration is the most efficient method, please click the button below to register on-line.
